Why It’s Important
Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association (DORA) Committee volunteers are the wheels that make DORA move. Our committee volunteers decide how we accomplish the yearly goals set forth by the board of directors. ORGANIZATION COMMITTEE
Purpose
Organization is the foundation of the entire Main Street program. A strong organizational base with committed funding will enable DORA to enact an effective revitalization program. To be consistently strong, this committee partners with various groups in the community to collaborate on important issues while molding the shared vision for Downtown Orangeburg. As part of the Four Point Approach to main Street revitalization, this committee is responsible for the following:
- Membership development and fundraising to raise awareness and create long-term sustainable funding
- Run the DORA booth at Festivals and events
- Host Annual meeting and Awards Ceremony
PROMOTIONS COMMITTEE
Purpose
This committee helps market a unified, quality image of the business district as the center of activities, goods and services to retailers, shoppers, investors and Tourists, that promotes community pride and economic vitality. Coordinate advertising, promoting positive images of the downtown, implementing special events (Downtown Alive Program) and establishing and maintaining good media relations.
DESIGN COMMITTEE
Purpose
This committee helps create an attractive, coordinated and quality image of the downtown area by capitalizing on its unique assets and heritage. The committee is involved in all aspects of Design that affect downtown’s image. From analyzing parking, coordinating window displays, signage and acting as a design resource for property owners to planting flowers and helping with DORA park, these are some of the projects for this committee.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Purpose
This committee is tasked with developing a market strategy that will result in an improved retail mix, a stronger tax base, increased investor confidence and a stability for Downtown Orangeburg as the seat for the County of Orangeburg. Directing activities related to downtown commercial real estate development. Conducting and maintaining a comprehensive inventory of downtown businesses and available properties.
